Quantum Conundrum from Airtight games, has now been given a release date of June 21st for its Steam only PC release. PSN and XBLA release dates are still to be confirmed, but remain set as Summer 2012.
The brainchild of Kim Swift, former Valve designer on the original Portal, has grabbed attention for its first person puzzling with a distinctly cartoonish style.
Playing as the 12 year old protagonist and armed with an Inter-dimensional Shift Device (ISD) Glove invented by your scientist uncle, you have to puzzle your way through the environment to discover what happened to him following a failed experiment.
The ISD has the power to switch you into one of multiple dimensions, changing the physics and properties of objects in the puzzle room. This includes the aptly named “fluffy Dimension” where the weight of objects are ten times lighter than normal. Other dimensions reverse gravity, increase the weight of items and slow time to a crawl, which all give hope of a good brain-scratching puzzler in the same vein as the Valve classic.
With the inherent legacy that comes from the Portal designer, this could be one to watch for you first person puzzlers out there.
